There’s a song on the radio I often hear, even daily perhaps. And three words of the chorus often repeat in my thoughts, whether I have been exposed to the tune that day or not. They drop in like unseen raindrops, showering me over and over, until I finally take action, mindfully unfolding my umbrella, creating shelter between them and me. But the words unceasingly pelt , grabbing my attention, over and over.
Christ in me.
Alright! I say, in frustration, as I bring down my umbrella, look up and allow the wetness to cascade on my face. The falling rain drops absorb into the corners of my eyes, and into the canals of my ears. I lick my lips of the water, pure and clean. I cannot keep the rain away.
But what do You want? I just can’t seem to be good enough, ever…..
I bow my head, bend my knees, and sink down into the sodden grass. The rain showers on me, drenching my hair, chilling my bare arms, and soaking my blouse.
I know Christ, You are within me. I know You call us to shine Your light to others, to be like You in this world, serving, and serving, and serving through all that I do.
And to do these things, all things for You, to show love and obedience, and to become more like You.
Stop trying to do things For ME.
Hear me, beloved, this is the you that tries from you, from your own strength, to be enough for Me.
I am the Light that lives within you.
You can choose to look away from Me within you, at the darkness of you, the you that condemns you, which is not the Me in you.
The you that tells you you are not smart enough, perfect enough, disobedient and failing.
The you that chooses to try to do good deeds to try to become more like Me.
The you that tries so hard to follow the rules hoping to lead you to be enough for Me.
Hear me again, beloved, this is the you that tries from you, from your own strength, to be enough for Me.
But there is another way. My Way.
Come, look not upon the darkness of you, but look into the Light of you which is Me in you.
“Come to me, all you who are tired and are carrying heavy loads. I will give you rest. Become my servants and learn from me. I am gentle and free of pride. You will find rest for your souls. Serving me is easy, and my load is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Serving Me is easy.
Come, rest my beloved, Turn Your Eyes On ME. I am here and you are made in the image of Me. You know ME, then you will know how to be, not the other way around.
Come, let go of the who you think you are and SEE the glorious life I have for you!
….I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength! Ephesian 1:18-19
I invite you to know ME, as I see you, created in the image of Me.
Know ME than you will know what to do, not the other way around.
And who are You?
The Light that lives in you.
Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.” John 8:12
I stand, my knees unbending, slowly, letting go of their stiffness. The rain continues to fall, washing, washing my skin.
To be continued….
