The Invitation Re-Visited-Friday’s Video

Are you accepting the invitation, my friend, as His beloved right where you are? There is nothing to do, except to accept.

(This is a re-post of The Invitation first published 10 months ago. The pictures are new and at the end, I’ve added a video blog so you can even skip the words if you like!)

Imagine this, or maybe you don’t have to imagine. Maybe you have an experience, a point of reference that allows you to dive into this story, in heart, in spirit.

Imagine you are peering into a window of a door that you have been invited to open. The brush of a cool wind, and the smell of the fall season’s leaves entertain your senses. You lift your hand to the door knocker, grasp the brass bar. And halt.

You see through the window a table set for two. But not just a table, but one laden with colors. You see so many jewel colors of blue, red, green, yellows that they blur in a melody like a rainbow in motion!

Your eyes focus in on the beauty of the details: a vase chock-full of your favorite blooms, a table draped in a yellow linen cloth that drips off the edges to a glistening tiled floor, pure white china plates etched with blue delicate vines, two wine glasses with tinted strawberry red stems, and two vine-patterned napkins garnished with a gold rose.

What is this feast, you ask yourself? Why has my friend gone to this extravagance?

And you let go of the knocker, look down at your empty hands. I have not brought anything, you think to yourself. You turn, look behind you to the shadows of trees on the street. I have not done anything to deserve this extravagance, you think to yourself.

And you begin to take a step away when you hear the door open behind you. There you are! the familiar voice hails. Come in, come in! the recognizable voice summons.

You turn to your friend.

I’ve been waiting for you. So glad you’re here to join me, and do I have a feast for us!

Would you hesitate to join your friend, as she intimately grasp a hand of yours in both of hers and ushers you into her home? Seeing her joy that you are just there, would you shy away or would you accompany her to the feast she has prepared for the two of you?

My guess is, my gosh, you would weave into her presence, ravish in her happiness and gratitude that you are there. And you would lavish in the festivities she is offering you as it is in the receiving of her gifts that you participate and give her joy!

And now I must ask you, my friend, if you have ever turned away from the feast that you are always being beckoned to, as His beloved? The invite is endless. The invitation always there.

Or have you turned away because you believe you have not brought anything to offer? That you have not been good enough, pure enough, obedient enough? Or maybe, like the second son of the prodigal, you have been out serving and working for your Father thinking it is the work to be done first and forever? The feast is there for you but you do not open the door?

“My son (my daughter),” the father said, “you are always with me, and everything I have is yours…(Luke 15:11)

Everything I have is yours. There is nothing you need to do.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God. who loved me and gave himself for me.

By grace you have been saved. There is nothing you need to do.

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—

PS. I just started with video to share the Word and hopefully make the world just a bit better of a place (as cheesy as that might sound, yet that really is the bottom line!) and I have a couple of other videos on my You Tube Channel

  1. Oh what a glorious Saturday morning treat, Lynn … I’m so glad for these moments. Thank you for starting my day off with beauty, loveliness, grace.

I hope your weekend soars, friend …

  2. Lynn, beautiful. You’re so right. How often are we invited into intimate fellowship with Jesus? How often have I felt unworthy because I didn’t have something to give Him? All He wants is me. And each of us. Nothing more. Loved this. And your video? Beautiful.

  3. This was a beautiful way to begin my day. The video was lovely and inviting. It is refreshing to be reminded that the invitation is always open for each of us to step into a life with Jesus. Have a blessed day.

    1. Thank you Mary! I’m glad it refreshed you. I’m thinking of doing a refreshing video every Friday to start a weekend. Imagery of nature has been shown to decrease depression, anxiety and increase mental health. Making these little videos is fun and my hope is they help the world be better somehow too! Always great to see you here!
