Breath of Spring

“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want—oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”
― Mark Twain

It was so much fun getting to know some of you better from your comments in my last post! As summer approaches, my life gets a bit fuller with the extra work around the home.  And I also spend more time in my favourite places outside. So over the next few months, I’ll be bringing you a little more of my home through less words but more photographs, creating a breathing space just for you.

(A small note regarding writing. I recently won a contest at Inscribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship  for this piece. And it’s encouraged me to fix up a few other pieces I have to be contest ready. Have you ever entered writing contests?)

See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.  The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.”

Song of Songs 2:11-13

What are your favourite things about spring and summer?

  1. These are stunning photos, Lynn! I always love your “eye” and what it captures through your camera lens.

Congrats on winning the contest. I have never entered a writing contest….think I have never thought something I had written might be “worthy” and I also don’t tend to hear about or know about any.

What I most enjoy about spring is the birdsongs in the morning and evening as well as my lilacs and irises coming into bloom. We have more hours of daylight and the chance to be outdoors for a walk increase, but we have had tons of rain this spring so that has been a bit more limited. My favorite things about summer include sitting on our deck in the evening reading and enjoying the early evening night sounds. (Fall is my favorite season so I need to work harder to think of things I enjoy in the summer.)

    1. Your evenings on your deck listening to night sounds sounds like a wonderful way to wind down your day, Pam! It hasn’t rained very much here yet, but hoping it will soon especially as the forest fire season has started already. I do love fall too! As I’m getting older though, the spring/summer sunshine helps my energy levels to increase. Maybe we’ll see some photos taken from you deck this summer? Have a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks Sandi! My portion of Canada is the prairie portion, so a little flat and dry, with lots of farmers fields! Not too far away are the Rockies, and hope to bring that part of home here this summer through photos too. Our countries are so large that we can experience all different types of landscapes, can’t we? From flat prairie, to rocky mountains, to rugged seaside shores, to deserts! Very blessed, I feel, to live on this side of the planet.

    1. Yes, He does give us wonderful blessings in all seasons, Melissa! As I write this, I hear the chickadees on my daughter’s tree from her open kitchen window (as I’ve been watching and taking my grandkids to school lately in the mornings these past few weeks). And love hearing the frog songs in the ponds at this time of year. May your day be full of those wonderful blessings of spring!

    1. I’m grateful for you too, Linda. And glad you feel refreshed here. It’s been getting tougher to find time to write and photography is a ‘quicker’ post, but don’t want to compromise my hope of bringing refreshment and encouragement! So your words encourage me that it’s okay…Have a wonderful week!

    1. Thank you Trudy! I feel a bit guilty as I just haven’t had the same time to write a post well enough for publishing! And photography posts are quicker, yet also hope they bring a sense of inner peace readers! Hugs!

  3. Love those photos, Lynn. I love to do photography, too, and have more pictures on my computer than I can count. Most are out-of-doors in park-like areas. I like to capture the unusual as well as the normal scenes.
I won an Inscribe Christian Writers Fellowship contest years ago for creative non-fiction. (Here is the link if you’re interested in reading it: https://successbmine.wordpress.com/2018/08/21/three-little-scallywags/ I love to walk through parks in the summer and I’m never without my camera. I enjoy the warm/hot weather in summer, but I do love the spring for all the blossoms that are emerging after long winter days. We have had a lot of rain here, too, and even when the day begins in sunshine, more often than not it ends in cloud and sometimes rain. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your photos. God bless.

    1. That’s wonderful Diane! Are you a member of Inscribe? Maybe you’d like to attend the fall conference in Edmonton in September and now visit Edmonton for the first time! Hoping the rain will move west as the forest fires have already started. Ontario has the most beautiful flowers and trees in the spring and summer, so I am sure you have plenty to photograph!

      1. I had to drop my membership when I didn’t have enough money to renew. I would love to come to Edmonton, but again there is no extra money to travel. But I hope you have a wonderful time at the conference. It would have been great to have an opportunity to meet you in person.

  4. Lynn, congratulations on winning the InScribe writer’s contest! How exciting! 🙂 I’ve entered contests before. I’ve won one, finaled in a few, and learned a lot from each contest I’ve entered. 🙂

Your pictures are breathtaking, my friend. I’m looking forward to enjoying more of your photography.
